The Script
The ceremony, transcribed, for those who couldn’t make it or those who cried through the whole thing and forget what was said.
DAN
Welcome.
A wedding is such a wonderful occasion,
filled with hopes, dreams, and excitement.
We are here today to celebrate the love
that AJ and Amanda have for each other,
and to recognize and witness their decision
to journey forward in their lives
as marriage partners.
Collectively,
you represent the families, friends, and
traditions that have brought AJ and Amanda
to this point in their lives.
Please affirm your support for this marriage
by responding “Yes, I do,”
to the following question:
As part of the community
that surrounds AJ and Amanda,
do you offer your love and support
to strengthen their marriage
and bless this family
created by their union?
EVERYBODY
Yes, I do.
DAN
AJ and Amanda
have asked that we take a moment
to honor the memory of those loved ones
who could only be here today in spirit.

DAN
Pennsylvania was founded on the ideal
of complete religious freedom.
The oldest and most well-known practitioners
of this idea are the Quakers.
AJ and Amanda have chosen
a Quaker wedding license, which permits two people
to wed in whatever manner they prefer.
All that is required to make it legal
is the signatures of you, the witnesses.
In recognition of the traditions
of openness and tolerance
observed by the Quakers,
the floor is now open for your comments.
[open floor ends]
DAN
AJ and Amanda
please join hands
to share your Wedding Vows.
AJ, repeat after me:
I, AJ, choose you, Amanda, to be my wife.
AJ
I, AJ, choose you, Amanda, to be my wife.
DAN
From this day forward, I promise to love you,
AJ
From this day forward, I promise to love you,
DAN
to honor you, to respect you, and to support you,
AJ
to honor you, to respect you, and to support you,
DAN
as long as we both shall live.
AJ
as long as we both shall live.
DAN
Amanda, repeat after me:
DAN
I, Amanda, choose you, AJ, to be my husband.
AMANDA
I, Amanda, choose you, AJ, to be my husband.
DAN
From this day forward, I promise to love you,
AMANDA
From this day forward, I promise to love you,
DAN
to honor you, to respect you, and to support you,
AMANDA
to honor you, to respect you, and to support you,
DAN
as long as we both shall live.
AMANDA
as long as we both shall live.
DAN
May I have the rings, please? [AJ gives rings to DAN]
Wedding rings are enduring symbols
that remind us of the pledges
we have made to each other
and of our responsibility
to honor each other
by honoring our promises.
May these rings serve you
and those who see them upon your fingers
as reminders of the vows
you have made here today.
AJ, place this ring on Amanda’s finger and repeat after me:
With this ring,
AJ
With this ring,
DAN
I give you my promise to honor you,
AJ
I give you my promise to honor you,
DAN
to be faithful to you,
AJ
to be faithful to you,
DAN
and to share my love and my life with you in all ways, always.
AJ
and to share my love and my life with you in all ways, always.
DAN
Amanda, place this ring on AJ’s finger and repeat after me:
With this ring,
AMANDA
With this ring,
DAN
I give you my promise to honor you,
AMANDA
I give you my promise to honor you,
DAN
to be faithful to you,
AMANDA
to be faithful to you,
DAN
and to share my love and my life with you in all ways, always.
AMANDA
and to share my love and my life with you in all ways, always.
DAN
Now, because you have chosen one another
and pledged to love each other
for all the days of your lives,
before this loving community
of family and friends,
it gives me great joy
to pronounce you husband and wife.
You may now kiss!
